Legal issues also arise when life changes. We assist with wills and powers of attorney, guardianship issues, separations and probate. When disputes arise, we help understand rights, risks and possible solutions – through negotiations or, when necessary, in court.
Some legal choices can be planned well in advance. A will or an advanced power of attorney can provide clarity for yourself and those close to you. Other questions arise when the situation has already changed, for example, in the case of the need for guardianship, a breakup or a death.
We assist individuals in gaining an overview of what needs to be clarified and in finding a way forward. In the case of a breakup or succession, it may be a matter of putting an agreement in place. When the parties disagree, we assist with negotiations and, if necessary, with taking the case to court. Three of our partners are regularly appointed by the district court as administrators in public succession. This experience gives us intimate knowledge of the issues that can arise when an estate is to be settled.
A dispute is rarely just about the size of a claim. It can also be about time, costs, evidence and what a solution will mean for life afterwards. Several of our lawyers have experience as judges. We use that experience to assess what may be decisive in a case, make a thorough risk assessment and explain the choices the client faces.
